Hyderabad: UPL Sustainable Agriculture Solutions Ltd, agriculture products and solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NSL Sugars Limited on Friday. The collaboration is aimed at increasing sugarcane yield per acre by 15 per cent, resulting in an additional income of Rs 12,000 to 15,000 farmers.
Under the agreement, UPL SAS will implement its sustainable sugar programme initiative, Shashwat Mithas, in a phased manner covering 30,000 acres of sugarcane crop in the first year. The MoU will provide sustainable solutions to the sugarcane farmers across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana. Govinda Rajulu Chintala, Chairman, NSL Group said, “By implementing environment friendly methods, we aim to maximize cane production per acre. This partnership will ensure sufficient cane availability to sugar mills, supporting the industry’s needs and stabilizing the supply chain.”
The initiative is expected to conserve around 1,800 crore litre of water, 1,500 metric tons of urea consumption, resulting in 25 per cent reduction in nitrous oxide, the solution provider told media.
“The introduction of our sustainable sugarcane programme marks the initial phase of our expansive vision. Looking ahead, we will be extending these sustainable interventions to other range of crops,” said Sagar Kaushik, president Global Corporate and Industry Affairs, UPL Ltd, said.
The end-to-end intervention includes Good Agronomical Practices, implementation of ProNutiva, mechanization and traceability through Nurture.farm mobile application.
